Introducing… From The Backpack articles and essays and more
Honestly, if I’m being fair to myself and many visitors who have been kind enough to join me time and again for well over two decades, the From The Backpack idea has already been introduced.
But this is kind of a new In My Backpack. An In My Backpack teamed up with Dumb Old Bob. An In My Backpack that was renovated and overhauled, and is up and running and still promising so many more surprises.
From The Backpack is the first of those surprises to arrive on our new site(s).
The basic idea is easy enough. Over time, my website has hosted a lot of material. As in, well over a thousand essays. As in, areas such as travel and interviews and photo galleries. Over time, a few things have disappeared, and several things have reappeared. There has been absolutely no incredibly secret plan in place to conceal the idea that, now that we’ve restructured everything, we’d be looking to some of the older stuff for a return. (Key idea… SOME of the older stuff.)
And – because of course – there’s a bit of a catch to it. Actually, more of an approach.
I don’t want to test your patience with some long introduction or long endnote added to every one of them that explains the how and the where and the when and the more of where this material has appeared previously. Instead, we’ve decided to keep it simple.
As categories develop around here, you are ultimately going to see some labels of sorts added to pieces. No stunner there, since sports have already arrived and we know essays and interviews will be coming very soon. From The Backpack will be a cross-reference for the returning/older pieces.
I’m going to have a very basic line – From The Backpack – placed below the title of each piece.
When you see such a label, it means it isn’t new. It could potentially be twenty-or-so-years old. It may have had some slight modifications made so that it reads more smoothly today (or something of that idea), and you won’t stop short and wonder why the heck I was referring to “last Thursday” in an essay that presents dates like 2012 and most definitely was not written about any last Thursday in recent memory.
